The next stop on our tour is about crafting our arched kneebraces. Creating the sweeping, flowing look is a two step process that starts on the CNC machine and is finished by hand.
You saw in part 2 how the CNC machine carves out the arch in the kneebrace. The machine purposely leaves a little bit on the arch so Duane uses the bandsaw to trim it off. One by one, the arches take shape. Then they are ready for the next step: sanding, another process we do by hand. Being an advanced manufacturing facility doesn’t mean we do everything by machine. Sometimes the most advanced machine we can get is the experience and talent of our carpenters.
Up next: part 4, all about sanding.
